Important Adoption Policy

We do not adopt out single guinea pigs unless you already have another guinea pig at home. Guinea pigs are highly social animals and must be kept in pairs or groups for their wellbeing. In some countries, it is even illegal to keep a guinea pig alone. We take this seriously to ensure every guinea pig we rehome lives a happy, healthy life.

Looking to Buy a Guinea Pig?

Guinea Pigs, scientifically known as Cavia porcellus, are native to the Andes region in South America, specifically Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia. Despite their name, they are not native to Guinea, and their domestication dates back thousands of years. These small, social rodents have become beloved pets worldwide due to their charming personalities.

Guinea Pigs are known for their gentle and friendly nature and they thrive on social interaction. They enjoy forming strong bonds with their human caregivers, making them excellent companions for families and individuals alike.

To ensure their well-being, guinea pigs require a spacious and secure habitat with hiding spots, fresh hay, and a balanced diet consisting of hay, pellets, and fresh vegetables. Regular grooming, nail trimming, and dental care are essential for their overall health. Additionally, providing mental stimulation through toys and activities contributes to a happy and fulfilled guinea pig.

As herbivores, they do not produce their own Vitamin C, so a diet rich in this essential nutrient is crucial. With proper care and attention, guinea pigs can live fulfilling lives of up to 8 years, bringing joy and companionship to their human companions.

Our Adoption Program

Here at The Davis Farm we run an adoption program for Guinea Pigs and Rabbits. We take on pets that for whatever reason need to be re-homed. We take them in and care for them, check them over medically and once we think they are ready we find them new forever homes.

Consider adopting an older guinea pig when looking for your new pet. They often come already socialised and with established personalities, so you know exactly what you're getting!

We charge an adoption fee for our adult guinea pigs. This money helps cover the costs of feeding and housing the animals we rescue, and allows us to continue being able to take in guinea pigs that need new homes and get them ready for new forever families.
